This dissertation asks what makes a high impact research team, focusing on the role of multidiciplinarity of the research experience of the team members. I shed new light on this question by analysing collaborations between individual researchers in teams and their citations. I use novel identification of teams from disambiguated data and citation estimate for multidisciplinary research output. The role of science in economic growth is central. In a context in which scientific teams are an important component of scientific research, efficiencies created from teams increase the return on investment in science.
