Work integration social enterprise (WISE) effects on economic participation, social inclusion, health and wellbeing: evaluation of Vanguard Laundry Services
This thesis discusses a multi-year evaluation of Vanguard Laundry Services, a social enterprise in Queensland, Australia employing people with experience of mental illness. Most participants’ incomes increased during employment with Vanguard, but incomes remained relatively low. Most participants reported better health, but some experienced negative effects on health and wellbeing. Effects varied by working conditions and opportunities, with good, inclusive work enabling positive effects.
