This thesis investigates boredom proneness in young adults and the impact this has on their transition to adulthood. The thesis identifies a group of young adults prone to boredom without the commonly associated distress, such as depression and anxiety, and yet they are not enjoying life and are less likely to fulfil their potential as those with higher well-being. Results showed that the bored group lack a sense of agency and have less supportive relationships relative to those with high well-being. As a developing area of research, the thesis highlights the importance of recognising those at risk of boredom proneness during their development in order to address their unfulfilling state.
