This project’s object of study is amateur online media which depicts cisgender, heterosexual men involuntarily being transformed into women and forced against their will to adopt traditionally female social roles. The project examines the ways in which these narratives are used to grapple with contradictions and tensions within masculinity, as the characters find that there is no “right” way for them to be a man. The project argues that these narratives are a useful heuristic through which to understand both men’s anxieties around masculinity, and how men view femininity in contrast to their own experiences of masculinity.
